The customer service
department currently uses an IBM AS/400 to process their orders,
which are then sent to the warehouse to be fulfilled. Orders are
brought to packing stations where they are verified, placed on a
conveyer system and sent to the shipping station.
Packages stop
at the CPS shipping station and the shipper scans the order numbers
into their CPS SDE (Shipping Data Exchange) application. CPS jumps
to the AS/400 screen, gathers the Ship To information, class of
service, and the method of service and saves the data. The package
weight is automatically read from the scale. The user then presses
a function key and the shipping label prints. While the shipper
is placing the label on the package, CPS writes the shipping charges
and tracking number back to the AS/400. The shipper then prints
the completed invoice, placing it in the box before it is sealed.
Best of all, this all takes place in just a few seconds!
"We can process
all our orders and include invoices (with shipping charges) right
in each package - all with minimal training and setup. Within days,
Harvey Software had us up and running," said the IT manager for
