AGCO® Corporation,
headquartered in Duluth, Georgia, USA, is a global manufacturer
and distributor of agricultural equipment and related replacement
parts. AGCO offers a full product line including tractors, combines,
hay and forage equipment, planters and other implements through
more than 7,000 independent dealers and a combination of wholly-owned
distribution companies, associates and licensees around the world.
With over $2.3 billion in annual sales, AGCO's products are widely
recognized and marketed under the following brand names: Massey
Ferguson®, Fendt™, AGCO®
Allis, White, Gleaner®, Hesston®,
White New Idea®, Landini, Agcostar®,
Black Machine, Glencoe®, Farmhand®
and Tye®. To support its product line,
AGCO distributes parts from distribution centers located in Georgia,
Illinois, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Texas, Colorado, California, Saskatchewan
and Ontario.
Their Batavia, Illinois distribution center stocks over 150,000
parts and processes thousands of orders every day. Twelve docks
are used for shipping. An automated conveyer system keeps the parts
flowing from all over the warehouse into the five shipping stations
running CPS for Windows.
To maintain efficiency at their distribution centers and provide
full package level detail on each box it ships with UPS®,
AGCO uses CPS Shipping Data Exchange (SDE) technology to connect
their shipping PC's to their IBM mainframe R9672-RB5 computer system.
The shipping personnel type or scan an order number, and CPS looks
up the shipment information on the mainframe and injects it directly
into CPS. The package is weighed and CPS then prints shipping labels
with complete address, tracking number, bar code and Maxicode information,
meeting all UPS requirements. Data for the parcel’s weight, tracking
number and shipping charges are then written back to the mainframe.
The entire process takes only a few seconds per package. In addition
to its fast shipment processing, this system also relieves the accounting
department from making multiple data entries and AGCO dealers can
look up their orders on the mainframe to easily verify that a product
had been shipped, saving all involved many phone call inquiries
about shipment status.
